| Homathko
River (CBS2) & Scar Creek (CBA7) |
By Brian Burger
These two airstrips are both real private strips in British
Columbia, Canada, but they got left out of FS for some reason.
After I'd done a couple of sim-flights through that area,
I knew I had to add them. The locations are accurate, as
are the general dimensions of the runways; the details are
speculative based on the maps I've got of the area and my
general knowlege of this area of the world.

in on floats. |
| Rumba
Lake |
By
Ken Nelson
Rumba Lake is a little North and East from Anchorage, AK,
about a 5 or 6 minute flight. [ N61 25.87 - W149 19.55 ] Thanks
to Dick's helpful knowledge and LWM tutorial I cut an LWMPoly
into the default FS ground and raised it to an altitude of
1457 feet or something close to that. The lake area sports
plenty of space for most float planes, weekend cabins, a home,
and a hunting/fishing lodge. There is also plenty of dock
space to Moore (park) your plane. The best part of it for
me is the dirt runway which has humps, dips, and is about
30 feet higher at the west end as compared to the east end
to challenge my bush flying fun. Also, once this scenery archive
becomes an active FS scenery directory you'll find two FS
startup locations. One on the runway heading west and another
on the lake, also heading west. With all that I hope you ALL
will enjoy flying at Rumba Lake. If you happen to see Rumba
walking around the premises or out on the lake doing a little
fishing just tell him I said "This Buds For You".

Logging, Inc. |
By Joe Watson
I have tryed to duplicate what I found in the December/January
issue of Alaska Magizine, Page 26. The floattown.jpg has
that article. I didn't think that it would be so large.
but there are some 1200 objects in this scenery, none being
tree's or animals. The real "floattown" was allways
on the move when it wasn't docked and working. Today it's
south of Ketchikan going up the Clarence Strait near the
Dixon Entrance. If you can make it to either Tamgas Harbor
(Z43) or Annette Island (ANN) go on a heading of 212°
toward Current Bay (CUB). Fly at about 500 feet over the
water. It should be on the left after about 5 min.

| Gateway
Forest Products |
By
Dave Erickson
Gateway Forest Products in Ketchikan Alaska is another Alaskan
dock facility for floatplanes. While that plant at Ketchikan
does exist in reality, I modeled it from an existing plant
in Montana, where I pulled veneer off the green chain many
years ago. I left the loading doors open along the dockside
of the plant, which allows good interior views of all the
machinery. The interior is brightly night lighted, and all
of the major aspects of plywood manufacture in a typical plant
are there, right down to the interiors of the restrooms. |

switch used here. There are some Cabins here and there around
the airport area. |

| Coastal
Shipping 1 |
By
Brian Buger
Coastal Shipping 1 adds ships of various sizes and types,
starting around Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada, and
covering over 400nm north to Haines, Alaska, USA. This area
includes the complex and narrow channels of Alaska's Panhandle
area, and some massive coastal fiords.
Most of the ships are near the settlements (and therefore
the airports) or along the largest channels, but there's a
good chance you'll come across a ship going about it's business
in some out of the way bay or channel if you go exploring! |
| Amos
Lake |
By Tom Fica
Located on the North side of the Alaska Range with a nice
view of Mt. McKinley. This is a fairley remote part of Alaska,
but there is lots of interesting terrain and a couple of
mountain passes near-by to explore. Sound files for Lago's
FSSoundScape are also included.

| Antelope
Trail Ranch |
By Bill Womack
Welcome to the Antelope Trail Ranch! I hope you enjoy your
stay in the closest thing to heaven a bush pilot has around
these parts. I built this ranch to give the aviator everything
he or she might want to feel right at home in the bush.
There's a cozy cabin overlooking a private pier with a float
plane hangar for getting that amphib out of the weather.
We've got a short (1500') grass strip out back, complete
with a hangar. There's a workshop by the hangar for doing
any repairs that might be necessary, and an old but serviceable
Avgas pump. You should be in good shape for fuel. The last
time I checked the tank was mostly full.

| Chelatna
Lodge |
By
Tom Fica
Chelatna Lodge, Alaska Located one hundred miles northwest
of Anchorage on the southern border of Denali National Park.
The lodge is perfectly situated overlooking eight- mile long
Chelatna Lake. It is the only full-service fly-out lodge in
the area. Access is by air only, with a 1500ft gravel strip,
plenty of tie-down space and three floatplane docks. Sound
files for Lago's FSSoundScape are also included. |
| YPR
Power Corridor |
By
Brian Burger
This simple scenery adds a high tension line north of Prince
Rupert, BC. See the enclosed map jpg for more details on locating
it.
This is primarily intended for the (insane) helicopter simmers
of Timberwolf, but it's a great VFR landmark as well! I might
do some more powerline scenery elsewhere, if there's enough
interest. (email address down below) |
DEW
Line Stations for Alaska, Canada and Greenland
|
By
Al Gay and Bear Baker
This scenery is meant to capture the essence of the Distant
Early Warning (DEW) line of radar and communications stations
stretching from the Aleutian Islands in Alaska across the
Northern shores of Alaska and Canada into Greenland. The DEW
Line served as the early warning system for North America
during the years of the cold war. Many of the stations were
built in the 50's with others added in the 60's, 70's and
into the 80's. Most of these installations have now been closed.
Many of the objects have been modeled from site photographs.
Where possible, site photographs were used to insure that
the layouts were as representative of the sites as possible.
They are, however, representations only. |

Lake Fish Camp |
By Bear Baker
This scenery is of a fish camp on Rainbow Lake about 27
miles East of Talkeetna, Alaska on a heading of heading
056 true (N 64* 26' W 150* 39'). The lake is in the pass
between Sheep River and Iron Creek. There is just one small
cabin located on the south end of the lake, a dock and Colman
type John Boat w/motor. The lake has nice rainbows from
ice out to about October
and plenty of bugs so bring
some deet!

| RCAF
Station Holberg |
By
Al Gay
This scenery package is meant to depict a radar station that
was manned by RCAF personnel during the Cold War. My information
is that construction began in October 1950, became operational
25 April 1954 and was closed 17 January 1991. This base was
part of the Pine Tree Line that stretched across Canada. This
base included various search radars over the years as well
as height finder radar. This scenery is broken into three
parts, the dock on Holberg Inlet, the townsite and the radar
site. The dock area has a refueling area, dock and a few buildings.
The townsite area was made from aerial pictures and includes
messes, single quarters, married quarters and various other
buildings. |
